Verna Walstrom Obituary

Verna L. Walstrom, 90, formerly of Houtzdale and a resident of Garvey Manor in Hollidaysburg, passed away Tuesday January 12, 2021 at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Ramey on February 21, 1930, the daughter of the late Joseph and Rose (Frankowicz) Lutz.

Verna was a homemaker and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale.

She was a charter member of the Black Knight Booster Club Auxiliary and Court St. Victoria Catholic Daughters of America.

On August 5, 1950 at St Barbara's Catholic Church in Houtzdale, she married Benjamin E. Walstrom, who preceded her in death on November 14, 2008

She is survived by her sons: Gary (Betsy) Walstrom of Glasgow, Glenn (Darlene) Walstrom of Houtzdale, James (Julie) Walstrom of Roaring Springs and Benjamin (Cheryl) Walstrom of Philipsburg.

Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren: Adam Walstrom of Altoona, Thad Walstrom of Brisbin, Gary Walstrom Jr. of Fallentimber, Breanna Lascoli of Altoona, Bryant Harvey of Rockton, Andrea Crosset of Potomac Falls, VA, McKenzie Crawford of Charlottesville, VA, Stuart Walstrom of Pittsburgh, Chelsea Guelich of Curwensville, Noah Walstrom of Philipsburg, Isabella Walstrom of Pittsburgh and Tyler and Jordyn Walstrom of Philipsburg, along with seventeen great grandchildren, sisters Margaret Wojtowich of Ramey , Blanche Mandel of Philipsburg, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter Joanie Harvey on December 9, 2020 eight sisters: Helen Matchock, Agnes Bartek, Josephine Goldsmith, Mary Nechamkin, Rose Caber, Kathryn Kephart, Francis Gavlakand Tillie Witherow, two brothers, Frank Lutz and an infant brother Joseph Lutz.

Visitation will be private. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ The King Catholic Church, Houtzdale with Father Joseph Czarkowski as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.

The Birger A Freeberg Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
