Thomas Wright Gallagher

Thomas Wright Gallagher, 85, of Louisa VA and formerly of Houtzdale, passed away Saturday July 16, 2022 at his home.

Born December 24, 1936 in Houtzdale, he was a son of the late John G. and Nellie (Wright) Gallagher.

Tom served honorably with the United States Army.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Houtzdale and a longtime member of the Camp Springs United Presbyterian Church in Camp Springs, Maryland.

Tom was employed as a computer programmer at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington DC and retired in 1992 after 30 years of service and he served on the Supervisory Committee for NRL Federal Credit Union for many years.

He enjoyed golfing, traveling with his wife and he was an avid Penn State Football Fan. 

On May 7, 1960 in St Lawrence Catholic Church, Houtzdale, he married Rosemary (Sherkel) Gallagher, who survive at home.

 He is survived by his wife of 62 years, two daughters: Karen (Buddy) Dulaney of Louisa, VA and Linda (Tom) Kaczmarek of Jersey City, NJ, along with two grandchildren; Sarah (Laura) Dulaney and Clarissa (Robert) Smith.

Also surviving is a sister Agnes Irene Whitehead of Philipsburg and a brother William Douglas Gallagher of Dallas Town.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers John, Robert and an infant brother William Thomas Gallagher.

A funeral service will be held at the Birger A Freeberg Funeral Home, Houtzdale on Friday July 22, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Richard Ginter officiating.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.
