Shirley Henshaw

Shirley Henshaw, 91, of State College and formerly of Houtzdale, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College.

 Born April 23,1931 in Houtzdale, she was the daughter of the late George and Laura (Kent) Henshaw. Preceding her in death were her brother, George Henshaw, and sister, Phyllis Downs.

 Shirley was a life-long devoted member of the Mt. Zion Primitive Methodist Church, Houtzdale.  She shared her many talents to support the ministry of the church, from teaching Sunday School to directing and singing in the choir.  She also served as the church bookkeeper for many years.

 As administrative assistant to the Dean of Arts and Architecture at Penn State University for 30 years, she enjoyed the respect of her coworkers and established many long-lasting friendships. 

.Shirley enjoyed traveling, shopping, and was an avid Penn State Football and Pittsburgh Pirates fan. Above all, she cherished time spent with family.

.Loving aunt of Kent Downs and his wife, Stephanie, of Wallkill, NY, Philip Downs and his wife, Suzanne, of Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ, and Laurie Witham and her husband, Dean, of Gardiner, NY, and Jeffrey Henshaw of Harrisburg, PA. Cherished great aunt of Tiffanie, Derek, Travis, and Will.

 Her kindness and caring, devotion to family and friends, and generous spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

.A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home, Houtzdale with Rev. Robert Ford officiating.

 Family and friends will be received Thursday from noon to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
