Robert (Bob) Eugene Haines, 79, of Emporium and formerly of Houtzdale passed away Wednesday August 28, 2024 at Penn Highlands DuBois.

Born April 18, at the Philipsburg State General Hospital, he was a son of the late Oliver and Dorothy (Baughman) Haines.

Bob graduated from Moshannon Valley High School and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1963. 

He was stationed for one and a half years at Camp Lejune, NC as a Radio Relay Operator; two years at San Juan, Puerto Rico where he served with the Military Police for the Naval Station Marine Barracks; and a half year at the Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, NC.

Hainer, as he was affectionately known, started his career at Corning Glass in State College in November 1967 and retired in February of 2001 after 34 years of employment.

On October 8, 2004 in Tavares, FL, he married Peggy Irene Haines, who survives at home.

He is survived by his son Craig Haines and wife Nancy of Findlay, OH; daughter Christa Williams and husband Steve of Bellefonte; brother Ronald Haines and wife Donna of Newry; sister Shirley Gmerek of Columbus, OH; and grandchildren Julien, Riley, Noah and Grace.

Also surviving are stepdaughters; Tina Grubb and companion Brian of Alexandria; Betty Gibson and companion Ron of Emporium; Shea-La Greer and her companion Adam of Houtzdale step grandsons; Austin and Jordan and step granddaughters Makenna, Miley, and Alexia.

 Bob was preceded in death by his parents Oliver and Dorothy (Baughman) Haines, his late wife Susan (Baney) Haines and a sister Nancy Harchak.

Family and friends will be received Wednesday at the Birger A Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale from 10 till 11:30 am.

The Houtzdale American Legion and Janesville VFW joint Honor Guard will accord military honors Wednesday at 11:30 at the funeral home.

Funeral Service will be held at noon on Wednesday at the Faith United Lutheran Church in Houtzdale with Rev Vicki Beilfuss officiating.

The family requests donations be made on Robert's memory to the Hahne Cancer Center, 100 Hospital Ave. DuBois, Pa 15801.
