Phillip M. Kerfoot, 73, of Morann, passed away Wednesday May 31, 2023 at UPMC Altoona after battling multiple myeloma.
Born February 25, 1950 in Philipsburg, he was a son of the late Albert and Violet (Vaux) Kerfoot.
While serving as corporal in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, he received the Vietnam Service Medal with one star.
Phillip retired from the Department of Corrections as a Sergeant at SCI Houtzdale in 2015.
He enjoyed hunting, collecting guns and was a member of the NRA. Loved reading a good book, bird watching and spending holidays with family. He was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan.
On June 5, 1976, he married Catherine (Horgas) Kerfoot, who survives at home.
Along with his wife he is survived by four children; Jennifer (William) Johnson of Houtzdale, Valerie Kerfoot of Altoona, Michael (Kristin) Kerfoot of Smithmill, Tiffany Kerfoot of Philipsburg, two grandchildren; Annabelle and Bryce Johnson and a sister Rosella McDowell of Philipsburg.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Mary Ellen Nies.
Family and friends will be received Sunday June 4, 2023 at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale from 2 to 5 pm and Monday from 9:30 to 11 am.
Rev. Father Robert Horgas will preside over the funeral service at 11 am on Monday at the funeral home.
Graveside Military honors will be accorded by the Houtzdale American Legion and Janesville Veterans of Foreign Wars joint honor guard.
