Mary (Evans) Powell

Mary (Evans) Powell, 82, of Houtzdale, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2022, in the comfort of her own home surrounded by family.

Born June 9, 1940, in Hirwaun, South Wales, UK, to the late Emlyn and Ann (Rossiter) Evans.

After graduating from Gadlys Girls School in Aterdare,South Wales, Mary met the love of her life, Glyn D. Powell, and got married on September 11, 1965, in the Church of England, he survives. They both emigrated to Houtzdale in1993, where shortly after their sons followed and they worked and built their family. They spent over sixty four years together.

She worked at a factory until they had their first child. After that she took on the role to care for, love, and teach her children throughout their lives. Mary enjoyed cooking and baking, especially for close friends and family. She devoted her life to loving and taking care of her family. Mary enjoyed being a part of her children and grandchildren’s lives.

In addition to her loving husband Glyn, Mary is survived by two sons; Adrian E. (Crissy) Powell of Houtzdale, PA, and Justin W. Powell of Houtzdale, PA; two granddaughters; Adrianna, and Cameryn Powell; and two grandsons; Ethan, who is stationed  in Japan with the United States Marines and Jaron Powell, all of Houtzdale.

In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by four sisters; Nancy Powell, and three infant sisters.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, October 29, 2022, from 12 – 2 pm, at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc, Houtzdale, PA.

A funeral service will take place immediately following the viewing, beginning at 2 pm, and officiated by Father Robert McKay.

Interment will take place privately at the I.O.O.F. Brisbin Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Mary’s name to a Dementia Organization or donor’s choice.
