Marie Jane Reed, 91, of Ginter passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 18, 2024, at her home surrounded by her family.

Born February 16, 1933, in Viola rural Smithmill, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Anna (Bungo) Zazworsky.

Marie was a member of the Brisbin Baptist Church. She sang in the choir, taught Good News Club for fourteen years, was part of the counting committee, and assisted with Vacation Bible School.  She had a strong commitment for the financial and spiritual well-being of the church and prayed daily that the doors of the church would always be open.

Marie’s focus was to help others. Throughout her life, she would reach out to family, friends, and even new acquaintances with friendly greetings, letters, and phone calls.

Marie had a strong political awareness both locally and nationally, and she actively communicated her beliefs in moral values to her representatives.

Marie graduated at the top of her class from Madera High School. Upon graduation, she flew to Carterette, NJ and obtained a job at Merck Pharmaceuticals . On March 29, 1952, she married William P. Reed, who preceded her in death on January 13, 2007. After she and Bill were married they settled in Ginter, PA . She was hired by Sylvania Electronics factory in Houtzdale where she worked as a floor monitor, managing numerous employees.

Marie is survived by two daughters, Margie (Robert) Houser of Almaden, Valerie (Gordon) Beers of Almaden, and a son Breck (Karen) Reed of Lakeland, FL.

Also surviving are six grandchildren: Collen (Rick) Houser-Schumann, Robert W. (Greta) Houser,  Allysa (Dusten) Lindsey, Regina (Zach) Rishell, Christopher (Alicia) Conell and Jessica (Carlton) Lee, 14 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.  Along with two brothers, David (Jane) Zazworsky and Gene (Connie) Zazworsky.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandson Scott Beers, and sister Nellie Ann Zazworsky.

Family and friends will be received at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc. in Houtzdale on Thursday from 9:00-11:00 am.

The funeral service will be held Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 11:30 am at the Brisbin Baptist Church with Pastor Ron Markloff and Pastor Kevin Howard officiating.

A committal service will be held at the I.O.O.F. Chapel on Thursday at 2:00 pm.

The interment will be at the American Legion Cemetery in Brisbin.
