Glyn D Powell

Glyn D. Powell,80, of Houtzdale, passed away peacefully on Saturday January 6,2024 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, surrounded by family.

Born, July 6, 1943 on Brecan Rd. in Hirwaun, South Wales, UK to the late Godfrey Wyndham and Ethel (Oliver) Powell.

Glyn attended Cefyn Coed Comprehensive School and worked at a garden center after school at the age of nine.

Glyn met the love of his life, Mary Evans when he was fifteen years old and they got married on September 11, 1965 in the Church of Endland, Hirwaun.

After leaving school, he started working for Lindsey Parkinson on an open cast strip mine as a heavy equipment fitter mechanic.

Glyn had a very strong work ethic and loved working at strip mines all over South Wales, Northern England and Scotland, where he made many lifelong friends.  He started his own business in Doncaster, England. He emigrated to Houtzdale, with his family in 1993, where he owned and operated Jem Industries and Power Operating Co., a local coal company. He also worked with his son at Apex Hydraulic and Machine in Philipsburg.

Glyn is survived by two sons; Adrian E. (Crissy) Powell and Justin W. Powell, two granddaughters; Adrianna (Cedric) Wilt and Cameryn Powell, two grandsons; Ethan and Jaron Powell, all of Houtzdale. Along with a sister Theresa (Rikki) Stewart of South Wales.

In addition to his parents, Glyn was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 2022 and his twin brother Raymond.

Family will receive friends on Monday January 15, 2024 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the Birger A Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.  Burial of the Dead Service will be celebrated at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Father William Ellis as celebrant.

Interment will take place privately in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brisbin.

Memorial donations may be made in Glyn's memory to the American Diabetes Association.
