Frieda Merritt Obituary

Frieda M. Merritt, 94, a guest of Ridgeview Healthcare and Rehab Center, Curwensville and formerly of Houtzdale, passed away Wednesday January 27, 2021 at the center.

Born December 3, 1926 in Parsonviile, rural Houtzdale, she was the daughter of the late William and Martha Emma (Phillips) Kennedy.

Frieda was a homemaker.  In her younger years was employed by JBC Garment Company of Madera, Cigar Factory of Philipsburg and the Philipsburg Hospital.

She was a member of the Parsonville Assembly of God Church.

Frieda enjoyed growing  flowers and vegetables , caring for her cats, bird watching and she loved to go fishing.

On February 5, 1944, she married Daniel W. Merritt, who preceded her in death on June 3, 1973.

Frieda is survived by the following children;  Doris Merritt, Gail Smith of Irvona, Martha (Vic) Phillips of Brisbin, Daniel (Donna) Merritt of West Decatur, Lonny Merritt and his companion Tonya of Philipsburg, and Amy Brown of Pittsburgh.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Fawna and Samantha Brown, April Merritt, Chrissy Flood, Patricia Dixon, Victoria Weld, Daniel Smith, six great grandchildren  and several nieces and nephews.

Frieda was the last of her generation

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, brothers, Alvie, Elmer, Allen and William Kennedy, sisters Catherine Kennedy, Esther McKee, Hannah Bezilla, Erma VanValkenburg , infants sons Leonard and Franklin and an infant great grandson. 

Service will be private and at the convenience of the family

Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brisbin.
