Frank Harchak Obituary

On October 5, 2021, Frank Harchak, a loving husband and father of three children, passed away at the age of 95 at the Windy Hill Village.  Frank was born on September 1926, in Houtzdale, Pa.  From 1944 until 1946, he served in the United States Navy as a Motor Machinist's Mate 3rd Class.  While in the US Navy, he earned the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon and the Victory Medal.

On November 1955, he married Mim Bacher and together they raised three children.  Frank is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife Mim, and his children, Frank (Elsie) Harchak, Valerie (Scott) Riddell and Niki (Gary) Hoover.  Everyone knew Frank as "Pap" and he was a kind and loving grandfather to his five grandchildren, Taylor, (Lauren) Harchak, Stefani (Alex) Yingling, Curtis (Melinda) Hoover, Brianna (Tim) Riddell and Janessa Riddell and his five great grandchildren, Chloe, Oliver, Ari, Everly, and Myla.

Frank was a hard worker his whole life.  He was a crane operator on the power lines, a dragline operator for Al Hamilton Contracting and after retirement he was a school bus driver for the Moshannon Valley School District through Fullington Auto Bus Company for many years.  He was a member of the St. Mary's Annunciation Ukrainian Catholic Church, IBEW, and the American Legion Freeberg Post 591.  As a young man he earned his pilot license and was an avid pilot until his 70's.  He enjoyed flying, airplanes, fishing and hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Harchak, his siblings, Betty Hensel, John Harchak, William Harchak, Christine DeLattre and Pat Bailey.  He is survived by his sister Margaret Shimchok and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a private service and Frank will be interred at the American Legion Cemetery in Brisbin with full military honors.  A private mass for family will be held at St Mary's Annunciation Church, officiated by Father James Davidson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the St. Mary's Annunciation Ukrainian Catholic Church at 22 Bentz Street, Ramey, PA 16671.
