Doris Kathryn Lloyd Smith, 95, of Houtzdale and a guest of Windy Hill Village of the Presbyterian Homes, Philipsburg, passed away Wednesday August 31, 2022 at the home.
Doris Kay was born May 16, 1927 at the Philipsburg State General Hospital, Philipsburg.
She was the daughter of the late Clair and Floss (Lobb) Lloyd of Brisbin and the widow of Maurice E. Smith of Pittsburgh.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sons, Thomas H. and James M. Smith and a brother Thomas C Lloyd.
She is survived by her grandsons: James M. Smith of Tracy, California, Jason C. Smith of San Jose, California, Ryan T. Smith of Houtzdale and Kyle A. Smith of Philipsburg.
Also surviving are niece Rebecca M. (Lloyd) and her husband Rich Ohs of Houtzdale, great niece Kalen B. Ohs of Houtzdale, great nephew Craig T. Ohs of Houtzdale, nephew Michael T. Lloyd of Moore Park, California and great nephew Thomas S. Lloyd of Moore Park California.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Houtzdale United Methodist Church.
She attended Indiana State Teachers College and the University of Pittsburgh.
She taught for several years in the Moshannon Valley School District before taking a position with the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare where she worked for 23 years. She retired in March of 1991.
Prior to retiring she traveled the lower 48 states. After retiring she made a trip up the Alcan Highway to Alaska. She also made a trip to Moosonee, a Cree Indian Village on the banks of James Bay in Northern Ontario, Canada.
She also took a Whale watching cruise on the North Atlantic and took two trips to Europe, Great Britain and Ireland were included in one of those trips.
While in Africa she was able to observe two Archeological digs and a visit to the United States Military Cemetery in Tunisia. Other trips she had taken were to the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Funeral Service will be held Tuesday September 6,2022 at 11:00 a.m. at the Richard Marien Chapel of the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brisbin with Rev. Robert Ford officiating.
Family will receive friends at the chapel from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
