Clair D. Smeal, 91, of Sanborn, rural Houtzdale and a guest of Mt. Laurel Healthcare and Rehab Center, Clearfield, passed away Saturday August 13, 2022 at the center.
Born September 11, 1930 in Sanborn, he was a son of the late Charles and Alice (Baughman) Smeal.
Clair attended the Sanborn United Methodist Church.
He received the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars while serving as a sergeant with the United States Army during the Korean War.
Prior to his retirement he was employed as a superintendent for numerous companies in the coal industry.
He enjoyed hunting in his younger years, but his passion was operating his farm and raising cattle.
On June 23, 1956, he married Gloria (Osewalt) Smeal , who preceded him in death on May 17, 2002.
Surviving is his son Scott (Autumn) Smeal of Sanborn, and two daughters, Cindy (Mark) Hinchliffe of Woodland and Joan Fyock of Clearfield.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Michael (Kim) Smeal, Daniel (Michele) Smeal, Nicole (Jeremy) Alleman, Erica Hinchliffe, James (Ashley) Hinchliffe, Joseph (Beth) Hinchliffe, Greg (Cheryl) Rosenberg and Amber Rosenberg, along with a sister Mildred Krolick of South Deerfield, MA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were her parents, wife, an infant son David, brothers, Ray, Kenneth, Clarke and Stacey and sisters Vinnie Richner, Anna Kephart and Betty Jane Green.
There will be no public visitation and services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Clair will be laid to rest beside his wife in Baughman Cemetery.
