Chester "Chet" C. Thompson Obituary

Chester "Chet" C. Thompson Jr., 76, of Brisbin, passed away Friday January 30, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.


Chet was born March 27, 1949, in Philipsburg, a son of the late Chester C. Thompson Sr. and Adolphine (Finney) Thompson.


He was a parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church, Houtzdale, a Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus Council #10376, and a member of the Loyal order of Moose #327.


Chet graduated from Moshannon Valley High School in 1967 and entered the United States Army Reserves the following year. When returning from the service he found employment at Elliott Coal Co. in Osceola Mills.  He later joined his father working at the former Greenwich Collieries in Cherry Tree where he was employed for 21 years. When the coal mines closed, he pursued his education at Penn State, where he received his bachelor's degree in human services.


Chet went on to work at Clearfield County Children and Youth Services for five years then transitioned to the Clearfield County Assistance office where he retired in 2011.    


Chet was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed playing pool and playing cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and friends and watching his grandchildren play sports.


On October 11,1969, he married the love of his life, Eileen (Chincharick) Thompson, who survives at home.


Along with his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Cassandra Kitko and her husband Drew of Houtzdale, and two sons, Aaron Thompson and his wife Bethany of Philipsburg, and Lance Thompson and his wife Ashlee of Clearfield.


He also is survived by five grandchildren he cherished:  Ty and Annie Thompson and Jhett, Fynnie, and Lew Thompson.


Also surviving are two brothers, Frank Thompson and his wife Cheryl of Brisbin, Fred Thompson and his wife Cindy of Gearhartville, and a sister Stephanie Dale and her husband Jon of Brisbin.


In addition to his parents, Chet was preceded in death by a son, Chester C. Thompson IIl.


Family and friends will be received Tuesday February 3, 2026, at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc, Houtzdale from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.


Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Christ the King Catholic Church on Wednesday February 4, 2026 at 11am with Father Johnathan Schmolt as celebrant.


Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brisbin.
