Cathy Jo (Yarger) Murarik

Cathy Jo Murarik,  67, of Sanborn, Rural Houtzdale passed away Friday April 14, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Born December 2,1955 in Philipsburg, she was a daughter of the late Ivan Yarger and Eleanor (Martin) Yarger Hassinger of Sanborn.

Cathy was a member of the Ohio United Methodist Church, Osceola Mills and the BPOE Lodge #1173 Philipsburg.

Cathy's Cleaning Business of 31 years provided her the opportunity to have clients who she considered her family.

She was an extremely hard worker even when challenged with her illness. Cathy loved working in her flower gardens and making beautiful crafts.  She enjoyed walks on the beach and quiet time on her swing reading a favorite book, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.  

On June 22,1974 she married Joseph M. Murarik, who preceded her in death on March 12, 2014.

Along with her mother, she is survived by two daughters; Lori Reifer and husband Kelly of Sanborn, Jamie Irvin and husband Sean of Bellefonte, three grandchildren; Madison Collins, Austin Irvin, Alex Reifer and two step grandchildren; Shane and Curtis Reifer.

Also surviving are three sisters; Joy Henry of Sanborn, Kim Horgas and husband Bill of State College, Traci Shimmel and husband Kevin of Philipsburg and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cathy was preceded in death by her father Ivan Yarger, husband Joseph Michael Murarik, sister-in-law Agnes Emigh, brothers-in-law, Joseph Davis, Denver Hampton and Michael Stewart.

Rev. Don Smith and Rev. Samantha McElwee will preside over the funeral service Wednesday April 19,2023 at 1:30 p.m. at the Birger A Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.

Family and friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday from 11:30 to 1:30 p.m.

Interment will be in Baughman Cemetery, Sanborn
