Carol Martin Obituary

Carol Ann Martin (Brocail), 81, of Houtzdale passed away on Thursday December 24, 2020 at her Houtzdale residence surrounded by her family.

Born January 5, 1939 in Osceola Mills, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Luella (Couperthwaite) Brocail.  She married the love of her life Leonard C. Martin, Sr. on June 16, 1956.

Carol’s everlasting twinkle in her eyes combined with an infectious smile and laugh made everyone feel loved and welcome, from family to friends to complete strangers.  For over 20 years, you could often find her closing Video’s Unlimited in the evening and would instantly make a friend. If you ever stopped to visit Carol, the coffee would be on and she would start cooking you a meal before you even sat down.  She was famous for her homemade apple pies, chocolate cake, and french fries.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Leonard C. Martin Sr. of Houtzdale, daughter Drena Martin of Clearfield, son Leonard Martin Jr. and wife Lori of Philipsburg, daughter Dana Jarrett and partner Willard Cutler of Houtzdale, and son Brett Martin and wife Shelly of Oak Hill, VA.  Carol cherished her eight grandchildren, Lena Halsey, Janelle Bainey, Brock Jarrett, Logan Murphy, Parker Martin, Jace Martin, Rowan Martin, and Mason Martin and her six great grandchildren, Landon Bainey, Brielle Bainey, Julian Halsey, Kyler Jarrett, Mya Murphy and Andre Murphy.  She is also survived by her brother George Brocail and wife Annice of Osceola Mills, sister Janice Hughes of San Diego, CA, and step-sister Rhetta Jackson and husband Kenneth of Osceola Mills.

Preceding her in death was her loving daughter Debra Martin in 1991, her brothers Charles “Bud” Brocail and Donald Brocail; her sisters Mabel Hoover, Miriam Pollick, and Florence Polachko; and half-sister Lenis Kenjora.

Carol battled uterine serous carcinoma for the last five years of her life.  She was a warrior and refused to give up the battle.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Due to the continuing COVID 19 pandemic restrictions a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
