Calvin "Bud" Dixon 77, of Sanborn, rural Houtzdale passed away Friday May 6, 2022 at Penn Highlands, DuBois.
Born July 7, 1944 in Morgan Run, rural West Decatur, he was a son of the late Robert Bruce and Edna (Oswalt) Dixon
As an active member of the Sanborn Church of God, he was the Sunday School superintendent and teacher.
Calvin took pride in his community and was willing to help where help was needed.
He was a devote husband, father, and pappy. He enjoyed coaching baseball, fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with his late dog Buddy.
Calvin was a member of the United Mine Workers and the Sanborn Grange.
He was employed at Rushton Mines until they closed and retired from the Hub at Penn State University in 2009.
On August 24, 1963 he married the former Verna "Vickie" Dixon who survives at home.
Along with his wife he is survived by five children; Beth (Bill) Dietrick of Sanborn, Tom (Dawn) Dixon of Houtzdale, Tim (Sherry) Dixon of Sanborn, Pam (Ed) Dietrick of Brisbin and Angela (John) Stoy of Bellwood.
Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren; Nathan and Nick Weld, Katie Millinder, Gwen Dixon, Tyler Dixon, Alexa Thompson, Cameron and Carleigh Dixon, Eric Dietrick, Amanda Mason, Ashly Dietrick, Cody, Alex, and Morgan Stoy and eleven great grandchildren.
Surviving siblings include Jane (Harve) Scaife, Edith (Blaine)Patterson, Irene (Butch) Williams, Blair Dixon, Walter (Alice) Dixon, and Dale (Cindy) Dixon.
Preceding him in death was a grandson Robert Bruce Dixon and four brothers, Gerald, Frank Terry and Clyde Dixon.
A Funeral Service will be held Wednesday May 11, 2022 at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc, Houtzdale at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Rick Butler and Rev. Jeff Aldridge officiating.
Family and friends will be received Tuesday May 10, 2022 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.
